You shoulda been there! At our nearly sold out event, hosted at Key City Theatre on Tuesday, March 18th, Ginger and Peter Niemann shared their four-year adventure circumnavigating the world. This is their second trip around the world -- this time using the northern route. The adventure begins in 2017 by heading north out of Washington to Alaska where they successfully transited the Northwest Passage. Sailing aboard Irene, a 52-foot fiberglass ketch, Peter and Ginger encountered every element you can imagine from ice, snow, sleet, and a constant hunt for safe ice-free passage. At that time, Irene was the 30th U.S.-flagged vessel to transit the Northwest Passage. Moving forward, their route took them through Greenland, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, South to the Mediterranean, and Turkey where they weathered the Covid pandemic. Eventually, they chose to travel south through the Suez Canal, crossing the Indian Ocean to the Singapore area. After an extended stay, on February 2, 2021, Peter and Ginger began their journey home via Japan and crossing the north Pacific to Alaska, ultimately arriving home to the Straits of Juan De Fuca and Port Townsend. It is a remarkable journey of human endurance and commitment to a goal and we were all enthralled and on the edge of our seats throughout the evening.

Warm hearted acknowledgement and huge thank yous go to event captains, Alice Tibbals and Linda James for their hard work creating, advertising and staging this special event. And a big thank you to our venue sponsor, Galmukoff Marine. 100% of the proceeds from the evening go to the PTYC Scholarship fund. Of special note, half of our audience was from the general public.... a credit to the advertising and outreach efforts of our event captains.
